Urgency needed for easing of Common Travel Area (CTA) Restrictions

Posted 17 May, 2021

Following the Executive statement last week on the easing of restrictions, we have contacted the Department of Health again today urging them to rethink the guidance outlined to ease Common Travel Area (CTA) restrictions.

The new guidelines in place from 24th May for travel are unmanageable, complicated and confusing. We are seeking clarity on a number of points and have highlighted the challenges the Travel and Tourism sector now face.

What we need now is a clear approach and timeframe to the full reopening of our tourism sector, including international travel.

The good news is that Northern Ireland are in a strong position in terms of the vaccination process, exceeding targets and the vaccine appearing effective against variants. You can view the Vaccinations Dashboard here.

We hope the review this Thursday 20th May will see restrictions eased for Travel and Tourism, so the industry can begin to plan for reopening and welcoming visitors back to Northern Ireland safely.
